 Friends of Ebenezer Australia Inc.
Friends of Ebenezer Australia is a community-based group located in Maleny, Queensland, Australia. The group's fund-raising activities on behalf of the Ebenezer Child-Care Trust in Livingsone, Zambia were started by Lenore Burton and Dawn Sebbens in 2005.
Lenore knew of the activities of ECCT because its director, Ranji Chara, was a personal friend of hers. Ranji and Lenore had met during the 1990's, when they were both resident in Gaborone, Botswana. Lenore, and her husband Richard, lived in Gaborone for 41/2 years and Ranji, and her husband Dr Nage Chara, were there for 7 years.
The Charas were living in Botswana so that their children could attend high-school there, for the 18 years prior to this they had lived in Zambia. So, when the children had finished school, the Charas moved back up to Zambia, where Dr Chara took up a contract with the Ministry of Health in Livingstone.
It did not ake Ranji long to realise the plight of the street-children in Livingstone and, in 2001, she started a feeding programme for them. Various of Ranji's friends from her time in Botswana helped her by raising funds for the work. Among these was Lenore, who started making and selling greeting cards with Dawn Sebbens after she and Richard returned from China in 2004.
Other people in Maleny joined the group until, in 2007, it was decided to put things on a more formal basis. So Friends of Ebenezer Australia was incorporated in Dec 2007 and became registered as a charity in March 2008.
Due to our direct and personal links to the project in Zambia, we are able to guarantee that any funds sent to the project will be effectively used. Also, because we meet all our admin and overheads costs internally*, we can also guarantee that 100% of any money donated will be sent directy out to the project in Zambia.
